THE BLOG SIDE OF THE MOON

O disco mais famoso do Pink Floyd, ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’, já foi regravado muitas vezes, seja como tributo, releitura e versão ao vivo.

Um das versões mais famosas acabou sendo o dub da Easy Star All-Stars(que já releu o ‘OK Computer’ do Radiohead e recentemente o ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ dos Beatles), mas tem até um versão em ritmos paraenses, feita pelo Luiz Félix, da banda La Pupuña.

Outro caso inusitado em relação ao clássico ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’, é a suposta sincronia entre o filme ‘The Wizard of Oz’ (‘O Mágico de Oz’ em português), que ficou conhecida como ‘The Dark Side of the Rainbow’. A banda sempre negou o fato, mas essas declarações só serviram para aumentar ainda mais o mito.

O disco é tão importante, que Roger Waters tocou-o na íntegra durante a turnê que passou pelo Brasil. David Gilmour também tocou algumas canções em sua última turnê, inclusive na última turnê do Pink Floyd, o álbum também foi tocado na íntegra.

Hoje em dia há uma discussão se formondo sobre uma nova sincronia entre outro disco do Pink Floyd e outro filme, conhecida como ‘Another Brick in the Wall-e’, que tem o disco ‘The Wall’ em sincronia com o filme ‘Wall-e’ da Pixar.

Enfim, essas são algumas das homenagens, tributos ou releituras dessa obra do Pink Floyd – o disco ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’.

RADIODUB ON THE DREAD SIDE OF THE MOON

O Dub é um estilo derivado do reggae jamaicano, que era utilizado pelos artistas gravarem lados-B de seus compactos ou lançar o mesmo produto numa embalagem nova. O dub usa e abusa de ecos de bateria e foi beneficiado pelo avanço da música eletrônica e conquistou de vez o mundo, virando um ritmo da Jamaica.

A Easy Star All-Stars, foi formada em 2003 por Michael “G.” Goldwasser e Victor “Ticklah” Axelrod, músicos nova-iorquinos. No mesmo ano eles lançaram a versão dub para o álbum emblemático Dark side of the moon, do Pink Floyd. O disco lançado tinha as músicas na mesma ordem do disco do Pink Floyd, e ainda trazia mais quatro músicas.

Em relação à lenda que o disco de Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Mick Mason e Richard Wright, que o Dark side of the moon podia ser sincronizado com o filme "O Mágico de Oz", dirigido por Vincente Minelli e com Judy Gargland, a Easy Star declarou que as versões dub para o clássico do Pink Floyd, também podiam ser sincronizadas com o filme. Mitos a parte, mas o ritmo jamaicano, dub, pareceu encaixar com tanta perfeição nos arranjos que as músicas podiam ter sido compostas para aquele trabalho.

Os integrantes do Pink Floyd autorizaram a gravação dos trabalhos e receberam cópias do disco Dub side of the moon, mas nunca se manifestaram a respeito. O conceito inicial da banda foi de realizar uma versão de um álbum inteiro. Para isso, Michael G. e Ticklah juntaram um coletivo de músicos reconhecidos no meio artístico, como Gary “Nesta” Pine, do grupo The Waillers, Frankie Paul, Dr. Israel e The Meditations, entre outros. Michael G. e Ticklah usaram sua gravadora, a Easy Star Records para lançarem o projeto.

Em 2006, o coletivo nova-iorquino, lançou outro trabalho, também inspirado em outro disco de rock que marcou época. O novo projeto chama-se Radiodread, uma analogia do nome dos cachos dos rasttafaris com o nome da banda Radiohead. O trabalho em si é o clássico, Ok Computer, que seguia a risca o conceito inicial de lançar versões de um álbum inteiro. Também lançado pela Easy Star Records, o disco Radiodread tem apenas duas músicas a mais do que o original lançado pelo Radiohead. Uma delas é a canção An air bag saved my dub, uma versão dub da música do lado-B do compacto Air bag, do Radiohead, An air bag saved my life.

O Easy Star All-Stars já tocou diversas vezes no Brasil, a ultima foi na Via Funchal em São Paulo.
